Main building of Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich

The main building at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, erected by Friedrich von Gärtner between 1835-40, houses lecture theatres, the main auditorium, the registry, etc. The interior offers architectural diversity, with interesting elements of historicism, Art Nouveau and Neo-Classicism. The university square, Geschwister-Scholl-Platz, with its fountains, is mirrored on the other side of the street by Professor-Huber-Platz.
