Friedrich von Gärtner restored the mediaeval Isartor gate in 1833 to its former greatness as the eastern city gate of the historical Old Town of Munich. It also contains the Valentin Karlstadt Museum. Several large roads surround the Isartor, which divides the Altstadt (Old Town) from the Isarvorstadt district.
