Historic Pharmacy, Stiftung Juliusspital Würzburg
The Rococo pharmacy of the Juliusspital has always supplied the hospital's patients with medicines. The foundation's Rococo pharmacy, still completely preserved and of significant art historical value, is a true gem. Antonio Giuseppe Bossi, court stuccoist in Würzburg, designed the ceilings and window decorations in his Rococo style. The frescoes on the cross vault, depicting allegories of the four elements and representations of the god Apollo and the goddess Flora, as well as a contemporary pharmacist, are made by the Lower Franconian painter Andreas Thalheimer. The blacksmith Johann Georg Oegg, who also designed the famous wrought-iron gates of the Würzburg Residence, created a prescription counter in his unique "flowering iron" style, crowned by a bishop's mitre, above the dispensing counter. The medicine cabinets to the left and right of the counter are adorned with four linden wood figures by the court sculptor Johann Peter Wagner. These figures represent the four seasons.
