Friedrichstrasse - Bayreuth
Margrave Georg Friedrich Karl (1726-1735) planned the street in Bayreuth to the south of the old city wall. However, it was not until shortly after 1746 that it became the margrave's grand boulevard with the addition of various aristocratic palaces. The old splendour can still be seen today in the spacious houses and palaces. The poet Jean Paul lived in this street from 1813 until his death in 1825. Another prominent resident of Friedrichstrasse was Maria Thekla Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's cousin. There are also well-tended gardens belonging to the Jean Paul or Schwabacher House (nos. 3-5), the Ellrodt Palace (no. 7) and the Steingraeber Palace (no. 2).
