Reduit Tilly - Fortress building in Klenzepark
The Reduit Tilly is the central building of the Bavarian state fortress in Ingolstadt. The ceremonial groundbreaking for the semi-circular fortress building, which was designed by Leo Klenze, was performed in 1828 by King Ludwig I. The building was intended to serve as the main place of refuge for the royal family if warlike events occurred. Surrounded by a well-kept park landscape, the Reduit Tilly is located on the Danube. Its elaborate design suggests that the building's representative purpose was of great importance. The fortress is now used as a museum of the First World War and was renovated in 1992. In addition, open-air concerts and festivals are occasionally held in the Reduit Tilly with its large, flat inner courtyard. Fortress, military, historical
