The district of Messestadt Riem is approx. 7 km away from the centre of Munich and is on the site of the former Munich Riem Airport, a reminder of which is still provided by the old tower. The 560 ha. site includes a residential district, the new Munich Exhibition Centre, a landscape park with a bathing lake, and a shopping centre. The modern and urban architecture is characteristic of the very young district.
