Karolinenplatz square, Munich

Munich’s Karolinenplatz is a public open space with a starburst shape in the Maxvorstadt district. In the centre stands a 29 m-high obelisk that was installed in 1833 to commemorate the 30,000 Bavarians who fell in Napoleon’s Russian campaign. The green space forms a roundabout and is encircled by a tram line. In total five roads radiate from the square.
