Egg Castle

Egg is a completely preserved medieval robber baron’s castle from the 11th century with many of the elements you might expect an old knight’s castle would have: a portcullis,a former moat, a draw well, battlements, bridges, gates, circular walls, a dungeon, a small castle chapel, a torture chamber, several secret passages, and, with a height of 45 meters, the highest castle tower in Bavaria. After the end of the Middle Ages, the then owner transformed the bare, uncomfortable knight’s fortress into his idea of a fairy-tale castle. Since 1840, Egg is home to bright, splendid interiors, lovingly designed gardens and inner courtyards, and a host of neo-Gothic architectural elements of the time – Egg blends all this into a unique symbiosis of the centuries.
