City Theatre, former prince bishop's opera house in Passau

In 1645, a ballroom was built on the Inn Bridge and in 1771/74, it was developed into a provisional opera house. In 1773, it was redeveloped into an exclusive classical court theatre by Prince Bishop Joseph von Auersperg using plans by Johann Georg Hagenauer. Repeatedly redeveloped in the 19th and 20th centuries, the latest reconstruction and refurbishment took place between 1989 and 1991, fitting the building with the latest stage technology. The City Theatre sees Passau boast a unique gem from the early classical period.
