City Gallery in the Munich Lenbachhaus

The Städtische Galerie (city gallery) in the Lenbachhaus and the Munich Kunstbau (Art Building) is an exhibition complex which consists of the frequently extended villa of Franz von Lenbach, including the shimmering gold extension of 2013, as well as the art building on the mezzanine floor of the subway stop Königsplatz. The exhibitions focus on art of the 19th century, of the Blue Rider and New Objectivity schools and on international modern art. The Lenbachhaus is situated directly behind the Propylaea Gate on Königsplatz square and is a popular destination for both locals and tourists in the centre of the Munich borough of Maxvorstadt.
